8. “SMU Meadows School of the Arts Students Win Local American Advertising Awards”; SMU Senior Mackenzie Cimala (HC art student alumna) wins three gold and two bronze awards, the most of any university student in the competition. “It is wonderful to see the students showcase their talents to the DFW advertising industry, as well as their parents, Temerlin alumni and their professors,” said Dr. Steve Edwards, director of the Temerlin Advertising Institute. “Awards are just one indicator of the quality of not only the students, but the dedicated agency executives and academic experts teaching in the program. We are so proud of Mackenzie Cimala for a truly outstanding performance! She, Samantha Butz, Mallory Massa and Tien Dang all have bright futures in the industry.”

9. The Illinois High School Art Exhibition’s show is a “Best of the Best” high school art competition developed to recognize students for their artistic excellence. The General Exhibition features some of Illinois’ top Visual Arts talent. Each year, over 100 city, suburban, public and private high schools participate from across the Chicagoland area. Schools enter over 2500 student works of art into 5 categories: Drawing, Painting, Photography, Three- Dimensional, Graphic Design and Time Arts for adjudication. IHSAE judges select only 500 individual artworks that best represent these categories to be on display at the Zhou B. Art Center in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood, on Sunday, March 6th 2016. The 500 student artists selected will then have the opportunity to compete against each other for over $15,000 in IHSAE awards and scholarships. 10. Suburban Chicago Regional of the Scholastic Art Awards This year, 2894 works and 91 portfolios were adjudicated and awards given. The highest local award, the Gold Key, are forwarded to the National Scholastic Adjudication in New York City. The Regional Show reception will be held on Sunday, February 7th, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Downers Grove High School, 4426 Main Street, Downers Grove. The show will be open for viewing from 7:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday, February 8th- Friday, February 12th. Hinsdale Central art students were awarded 2 Portfolio Gold Keys, 9 Gold Keys, 9 Silver Keys, and 13 Honorable Mentions this year.
