1 PowerSchool Introduction BRRSD Grades 5-12 Faculty Training Summer/Fall 2010

2 Faculty Commitment Attendance at any 3-hour training session (see below) + one 3-hour on-line Pearson Distance Learning course on ‘PowerTeacher’ or ‘Gradebook’exempts attendance at the October 11 th Professional Development Day. Training sessions will be held as part of the Summer Reflective Institute on June 23, 24, 25, July 15, August 19, and before school on September 1 and 2.

4 Three Hour Syllabus Part I – PowerTeacher (<1 hour) Logging In Taking Attendance Printing Class Lists Attendance Reports Launching the Gradebook Part II – Gradebook (~2 hours) Screen Geograpy / Navigation / Windows Setting-Up Categories for ‘Weighted’Categories Entering Assignments / Grades / Letter Grades Filters / Groups Copying Assignments / Filling Scores / Fill Inspector Comments Term Weights (HS) Comments Manual Overrides Entering Comments / Submitting Grades / Final EOY Grade CompletionFinal EOY Grade Completion Verifying Grades (PowerTeacher) Login to Distance Learning Courses [ Part III – Time Permitting (…) ] Seating Chart Class Content / Standards Daily Bulletin Gradebook Reports  New Item  Important Item

6 Gradebook Practices Keep Default Categories and Icons (Homework, Project, Quiz, Test) Additional Categories can be added at teacher, relative weights can be changed. But for the sake of a consistent look in the Parent Portal, please do not change the appearance of the initial assignment categories.

7 Comments for report cards and progress reports are entered in the gradebook by right clicking on any students final grade, selecting ‘Score Inspector’ or ‘Fill Scores’ and clicking on the Comments tab. Comments are entered from the list on distinct lines. There will be a limit to the number of comments, based on available space on the report card.

8 Comments can be batch-filled per the criteria below.

9 When Final Grades are complete, the teacher MUST check off that they are ready.

10 Full-Year Courses – Q1 = 20% Q2 = 20% X1 = 10% Q3 = 20% Q4 = 20% X2 = 10% Semester Courses – Q1 = 20% Q2 = 20% X1 = 10% The final look and configuration of the HS Term Grades is not yet set, but those teachers will have to set ‘Term Weights’ before the end of the year.
