1 MacBook Air Essential Lesson #1 2015-2016

2 Pledge Student Pledge Teachers should have a discussion with students about the Pledge (see next slide for key reminders). Students should read and sign the district pledge. The form should be taken home, signed by Parent/Guardian and returned to their Homeroom teachers the next day. If forms are not returned to Homeroom teachers they must be turned in to the Mac Station in 202. Students should initial the bottom o the form when they receive their devices.

3 Care of Device It is the responsibility of the user to care for the device in an appropriate manner (see pledge). The device should be charged nightly in a safe and secure environment free from food, water, animals, and flammable materials. The device or accessories should not be loaned to anyone, at anytime. It is the responsibility of the user to secure the device in a locked, safe environment during extra curricular activities, sporting events, or traveling.

4 Discipline Discipline pertaining to MacBook Air Level 1 Violations *Includes but not limited to: repeated uncharged device, unprepared for class, careless, off-task use, listening to music at inappropriate times 1 st offense – teacher discipline 2 nd offense – teacher discipline 3 rd offense – teacher discipline (parent contact) 4 th offense – refer to administration Examples of teacher discipline… - verbal redirection - student/teacher conference - class restricted use - alternate assignments - teacher assigned detention - parent/teacher communication/conference

5 Discipline Level 2 Violations *Includes but not limited to: acceptable use policy violations, harmful or malicious activities, accessing and/or sharing inappropriate materials, inappropriate videos or photos Examples of administrator discipline… -S tudent/administrator conference - In-School Suspension (1-5 days) - Out of School Suspension (1-5 days) - Restricted use of device/restricted user Any offense classified as level 2, a major classroom disruption, or criminal conduct will be referred immediately to an administrator. The administrator will notify parents and determine discipline.

6 Distribution All students should receive a MacBook Air. Only Take Home Users should receive a power supply cable. Please keep baggies and index cards and return to Ms. Miller. Starting today all Day Users must return their device to the Mac Station (room 202) each day at dismissal. They may retrieve their devices each morning starting at 7:45 a.m. at the Mac Station.

7 TextText A T THIS TIME TEACHERS SHOULD GIVE EACH STUDENT THEIR ASSIGNED COMPUTER ( IN A CLEAR CASE ) AND POWER CABLE. EACH STUDENT SHOULD MAKE SURE THEIR NAME APPEARS ON THE COMPUTER AND THE P OWER CABLE. O NCE STUDENTS HAVE RECEIVED THEIR DEVICE AND POWER CABLE, THEY SHOULD INITIAL THE A GREEMENT FORM INDICATING RECEIPT. Distribution

8 Logging in Students should now Log-in to their computer The first screen students see after powering on their computer requires them to use their district credentials (Usually last name first name middle initial and the password is the last 5 digits of their student ID#).

9 If students see this Students may Skip this process if it appears on their screen.

10 Wifi After logging into the computer, the first thing students should check is to that the wifi is on and Student wifi has been selected.

11 Oh No….. An at time if students encounter issues, please try and help, but if you cannot there is probably a form in your folder (colored paper) to complete and we will help them as soon as possible. Also, if things in Self service/App store seem to be missing or not working correctly, again, try and help, but if not, record on the form and proceed.

12 TextText Self Service Next, go to the finder. Applications Find Self Service. Login using the same information used to login to the computer.

13 Self Service Once Logged into Self Service, be sure to keep self service selected on the left menu bar.

14 TextText Self Service Once in Self Service students will need to complete several steps.The required steps should be on the first page (Featured).They need to create Local Admin then Override Gatekeeper, IN THAT ORDER Next, they should Install the Kaspersky Agent.This will take some time, but needs to be done while at school. If issues arise with Kaspersky, it can be run again at a later time. students should install the HP print drivers LATER.(That is not something that has to be done today. But needs to be done before they can print there at school.)

15 Self Service The next step will require students to use the menu on the right of the Self Service Screen.

16 Self Service Under Updates students will need to run the Java and FLASH update (if not there - it is okay). If students want the TI Calculator under Apps they may install that. All of these updates can be done at a later time, if needed.

17 Quit Self Service Students should quit Self Service.

18 Logging in Email Address Email addresses are typically as follows: lastnamefirstnamemiddleinital@students.clover.k12.sc.us Last name, first name, middle initial - no spaces and no capital letters. This should be followed by @students.clover.k12.sc.us (there is an S on students).sc.us Example: smithjohnt@students.clover.k12.sc.us smithjohnt@students.clover.k12.sc.us

19 Setting Up Email Go to the finder, applications, and find the Microsoft Office 2011 folder. Open that folder. Open the Outlook program.

20 Email 1.When they click on email (Outlook) it will first ask if they want to access contacts. Click ok. 2.They will then see a screen like this. It should auto-populate. If not, type in their first name. Then, next to “last name” type their middle initial followed by a period and a space. Then the last name. 3.Under company type in CSD 4. Click Continue

21 Items on this screen should be answered with YES. Click continue.

22 Select - Add Account

23 Update After selecting Add Account, an update screen will appear. Click cancel to skip the update. Students may update office at a later date.

24 Next Screen Select Exchange or Office 365

25 The screen should populate like the one below. If not, students will need to input their information. Remember the s on students…The select Add Account. You may need to add this.

26 This screen should open after the account has been added. Once this screen appears, select the red circle in the upper left and close the program.

27 App Store Students should go to the APP store. They need to search for a free app (like a Solitaire or a calculator). Click to “get” and install the app. This will then require them to log into their apple/iCloud Account.

28 Sign in to iCloud Students should use their school email address as their username. They should use Clover and the last 5 digits of their Student ID # as their password. New students may need to set up their account. If so, they need to user their Clover email address and Clover##### (last 5 # of ID) as their password. This is how Apple IDs should have been set up last year. 9th grade may be different. Students from CMS - Miller may have their password. OMS students may have to do a “forgot password” process. Record these issues on a separate form. We will get to students ASAP.

29 Once students have used their Apple ID for the free App, they may close the Red X in the upper left of the screen. Next, students will need to find system preferences. Going to the Apple (upper left) or the icon on the Doc.

30 Apple ID At the bottom of the screen there should be an icon that will open the system preferences of the computer. Click on the icon and wait for a new window to open.

31 Apple ID Click the iCloud icon. Here

32 Apple ID Then make sure Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, notes, and Back to My Mac are NOT checked. Safari, Documents, and Find My Mac should be checked. Keychain (sometimes causes issues) and photos are at the user’s discretion, just remember privacy is important and once in the cloud, always in the cloud.

33 TextText ICLOUD DRIVE If given the option to upgrade to iCloud Drive - Students should do this UPGRADE.

34 If students get this message at any point in the process just have them hit cancel.

35 Account Details Once students select Find My Mac the above message will appear. Select Open Security and Privacy. If they skipped this the next slide will show you how to get back to that.

36 Apple ID Go to system preferences. Click the Security and Privacy Icon Here Find My Mac/Location Settings

37 Select Privacy

38 1.Click the Lock in lower left 2.Enter your 5 digit Password 3.Check Enable Location Services 4.Click the lock to Lock it, then close system preferences

39 To Do Later Students will eventually need to return to the App Store and Download and install the Apple Softwares that should be found under purchases. (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, iMovie, Garageband).These will take time and power to install. They should appear under Purchases. If issues getting these Apps for free are encountered, please tell students they can see Ms. Lightsey in the Mac Station (202) when they get a chance.

40 This is the END Students should install any updates to Microsoft, Install Print Drivers, and Apple software from Self Service as time permits.
