2 Background (About Indonesia)  Total population 220 million  Indonesia consist 33 provinces  The total labor forces 104 million  30% work in formal and 70% work in informal economy  Overseas employed + 6,9 million  Destination countries: Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Middle East, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan

3 Introduction  In the international labor market, Indonesia in the category of origin country of migrant workers. Since the 1980s there was an increase that large number of women migrant workers (migrant workers feminizing).  This reality continuing process of feminization of poverty. Women are increasingly shrinking access to land ownership, less access to work in their areas and the smaller income.  The feminization of migrant workers shows how the process of globalization, which encourages cross-border movement of labor, has been further strengthening and expanding of division of labor system based on gender, where women are concentrated in the domestic sphere and men in the public domain

4 Reality  Domestic workers currently occupies the top position as the destination of Indonesian labor migration. From 6.9 million migrant workers who employed outside the country, 73% were female and the majority worked as domestic workers  Indonesian migrant domestic workers in fact have contributed to the economy than any other sector  The absence of a protective legal instruments for migrant domestic workers, both in Indonesia as origin country or several countries that the purpose of placement of Indonesian migrant domestic workers, a major factor against all violations of the rights of migrant domestic workers

5 Reality  The working relationship that is always oriented power between employers and migrant domestic workers  With such conditions, migrant domestic workers extremely vulnerable to various threats of violence and violation of their rights as workers and as human beings  On the other hand, violence and various forms of exploitation of Indonesian migrant domestic workers is not really only when working abroad. In the country-even, before leaving (during recruitment and at the shelter) and at the time of repatriation of always placing them in a very weak position

8 KSBSI activities related with domestic and migran workers  Conducting workshop on mainstreaming domestic workers in the union  Lobby with parliament and polical party to push them legalize the draft of law on prtection for domestic workers  Networking with other NGO and union related with domesic workers and migrant workers issues

10 KSBSI activities related with domestic and migran workers  Printing and distribution of campaign materials (at least 300 examplar) for migrant workers in the form of a pocket book. In the book also included a resolution of ITUC and other policies related to migrant workers  Conducting meeting with migrant workers and their families to improving the capacity of migrant workers and their families to defend their rights and interests.  Conducting training to migrant workers to increasing knowledge and skill to negotiate the right of migrant workers
