1 The Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 (TSCA) Draft year: October 11, 1976; Amendment years: 1976; National

2 What is TSCA?  The TSCA allows the EPA authority to require reporting, record-keeping and testing requirements, and restrictions relating to chemical substances and mixtures. Although some substances are excluded from this act like some foods, drugs, cosmetics and pesticides.  The TSCA does not separate the chemicals into “toxic” and “non-toxic”, instead it prohibits the manufacture or importation of chemicals that are not on the TSCA list of chemicals.  The environmental issues affect are that the TSCA address the production, importation, use, and disposal of specific chemicals (ex: PCBs, asbestos, radon).
