LS EXPERTISE PLANNING - MISSION START-UP AND LIQUIDATION Technical assessment missions (TAM); Start up development and coordination; Assessment visits and briefs management on Liquidation; Provides guidelines on Liquidation; Environmental issues; Mission on drawdown activities and disposal of assets; Staffing resources for support start-up and liquidations; Post-Liquidation activities, data reconciliation, follow up on disposal issues

20 LS EXPERTISE Engineering Standards Design Center (ESDC)
5 LS EXPERTISE Engineering Standards Design Center (ESDC) ESDC provides engineering operational and technical support to field operations, producing technical clearance for local procurement authorities, technical assessments, designs for specific Mission projects, including frequent on-site assistance (TDYs). ESDC develops and maintains standardized designs, scales, and templates for complex engineering works carried out in the field operations. ESDC work closely with UN-Procurement Division for Engineering System Contract Management. 22 (“..Mainstreamed into the Supply Chain Management..”
Modularization (“..Mainstreamed into the Supply Chain Management..”

23 Modularization Provide field Missions with the capacity to rapidly build up field facilities by using a range of individual basic modules that can be configured for different deployments. Three main components to modularization: Design – each module is designed by experts, including engineers, architects, transportation specialists, security and safety experts. Modules – materials and equipment which together form a functional capability for a field camp.  Enabling capacity – the labour and expertise which is deployed to build/install the module. Modularization is designed to be scalable and flexible to meet changing requirements throughout the lifespan of a Mission.

24 Modularization Composition: specific engineering items, supply items, transport items, CITS items & medical items, often combinations. Items physically located in Brindisi warehouses (SDS and UN Reserve ), other Missions, vendor managed stock, and global systems contracts. Some items need to be purchased locally by the Mission, e.g., cement and cement products, gravel. The aim is RAPID DEPLOYMENT of the module or camp.

26 Strategic Deployment Stock (SDS)
Composed of IT/COMs, Supply, Engineering, Medical and Transport Expendable ($39.7M) and Non-Expendable ($4.6M) The total SDS Capacity is approximately $130M, $44.3M in material and rest in funds (as of February 2016)

29 Commercial contractors
Modularization Enabling Capacity Enabling capacity is the labour and expertise (including tools and equipment) required to build and install the modules. A range of enabling capacities is being established for Missions to select: GSC MSTs Commercial contractors Global MSTs Military/ TCC Established since 2010

30 Modularization

31 Modularization Major Benefits
Standardization Reduced Planning efforts in the start up phase ESDC- Planning/ Design support for Projects Energy – 50% reduction in fuel dependency with a ROI of 5 years Water – 40% water needs met through recycling and rainwater harvesting Ablutions – reduce water consumption by 55% Wastewater – 42% reduction in wastewater Waste – 45% waste-to-landfill reduction

32 1-C 200-person Camp Design One of several variants with, prefabs, containerized accommodation or tentage for any combination of occupants. This drawing contains living accommodations using modified containers in three clusters. It also suggest alternative energy harvesting using a park of vertical wind-mills and the utilization of rooftop-space of PV panels. In suitable conditions the 250m x 250m are could provide all the water and energy needs of its inhabitants (including atmospheric water harvesting, recycle organic waste and maybe in the coming years develop to a fully self-sustaining biotope)

33 1-C Design Improved Layout
250 m x 250 m Improved layout taking into account the suggestions by member states, mission experts etc. (larger footprint, patrol road, developed parapet, location of armoury, container modifications rear opening, location of entrance, photovoltaic and wind farm, improved cluster design, green area …)

34 Security Module, Specialized Shelter
Standard Classification: A1-A5 <30mm APDS - medium caliber projectiles B1-B4 <150mm AT - rifled grenades / sh. launched weapons C1-C4 <155mm – mortars and artillery indirect fire – near miss D1-D4 <155mm – mortars and artillery indirect fire – surface hit E1-E4 <155mm – mortars and artillery indirect fire – delay fuze

35 Containerized Accommodation
Living accommodation for staff, self contained or shared office: Temporary individual living accommodation or individual small office:
