@hecticteacher Project based Homework in Key Stage 3 What does it currently look like? Takeaway Homework Students choose from a number of differentiated activities Objective focused Project All students have the same objective but how they approach it and their outcome is up to them. Build Your own Project Students are given a broad topic but can create their own objective, outcome and assessment criteria.

@hecticteacher Project Based Homework in Key Stage 3 Access to resources – particularly boarders. Being given control over the homework, to do things that interest them. Too many projects at the same time. Being able to show off what they are good at, proud of and what they know in their own way.

@hecticteacher Project Based Homework in Key Stage 3 Homework became more meaningful and not set for the sake of it. Monitoring students during the project. Better work/life balance due to timings of deadlines. Big project pieces – what to do with them? Fewer students not handing in work. How to share really good pieces beyond just a merit / principals prize

@hecticteacher Project Based Homework in Key Stage 3 So what is my big idea?

@hecticteacher Project Based Homework in Key Stage 3 Cross discipline Project Portfolios and Journals Presentation fairs Teacher Panel Assessment

@hecticteacher Project Based Homework in Key Stage 3 Helps students make links between subjects. Ensures that homework is not set for the sake of it. Allows students to explore their interests and curiosity. Develops cross curricular skills that we look for in Key Stage 4 and 5.

@hecticteacher Project Based Homework in Key Stage 3 Keeps students on track. On going review and reflection. Parental involvement in checking and signing the journal. Checking by different teachers so not one responsible teacher. End of Key Stage “scrap book” of projects.

@hecticteacher Project Based Homework in Key Stage 3 Similar to the American science fair set up. All students get the opportunity to show off what they have created in a less stressful way. Parents can be invited in see what has been produced. Panel groups invited to discuss their projects to show the next year what can be achieved.

@hecticteacher Project Based Homework in Key Stage 3 Assessment spread out across teachers so work load is lessened. Comparative marking so not one persons opinion. Conversations with students over projects, see beyond the finished outcome. No grades given but awards.
