2 What is a Chart? A way to represent data and information.

3 Chart types Area Chart – emphasizes the trend of value over time. Column Chart-Vertical columns that display values over various categories (shows variations in value over time). Bar chart-similar to column chart, except horizontal bars are displayed. Line chart-show trends and variations in information over time. Pie chart-shows the contribution of value totals (displays different parts of the whole). Other charts include: Cone, cylinder, radar and pyramid charts, etc.

4 Components of Charts A range of cells that make up a chart is considered the source data, whenever this information changes the chart is updated. The title of the chart can be added in the section called Chart Title. The Legend is the chart key. The Axis are the x-axis(horizontal) and the y- axis(vertical). The rows and columns of the source data is considered the Data Series.

5 Inserting Charts To create a chart first; – Insert data into a spreadsheet – From the Insert menu, select Chart – Select the appropriate chart to use for your data.
