Green Energy Report by Bryce Williams P.2

What makes it “Green”  Renewable – Won’t easily run out  Doesn’t put environmental strain on the planet; such as, pollution, deforestation, etc…

What makes the “Energy”  The most common method in this age is to use turbines to create power for a generator, which consists of two rotating magnets making large amounts of static electricity, which can be then harnessed and put to good use; This process often involves the burning of fuel to turn water into steam to turn the turbine.  Dependable alternatives to burning fuel and/or turbines are what is currently sought after.

Hydro-Electric  Using the force of rivers to generate electricity by using a dam  The Hoover Dam, the largest in the world, is able to produce enough energy for approximately six-million people daily  Takes lots of time and effort to build

Wind  Kinetic energy from the wind to create electricity.  Still uses a turbine to power a generator, but cuts out the entire burning fuel step; leaving no harmful gases in the mix.

Tidal  Works similar to hydro-electric, but uses ocean currents and tides instead.  Almost a mix of wind and hydro-electric

Geo-Thermal  The earth’s natural primordial heat is used to make steam

Biomass  An alternate fuel for the traditional power plant generators; can be made into building materials and other useful products.  Usually plants, animal waste, or other bio- material.  Biomass is CO2 neutral; it only gives off as much CO2 as it had absorbed in it’s lifetime or otherwise.

Solar Light & Heat  Using mirrors to heat water into steam; Or using mirrors to heat buildings. Solar Panels  Using solar-cells to absorb sunlight and converting it into electricity (This is the weird one in the group; doesn’t use water, burning, or turbines.)
