3 HEALTHCARE WORKFORCE Community Colleges Mission of the NN/LM …improve public health by providing all health care providers in the United States with equal access to biomedical information …improve the public’s access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health

4 HEALTHCARE WORKFORCE Community Colleges COI (Community of Interest) NNlLM NER initiative in 2011 Groups: Health Literacy, Healthy Communities. IT, and Healthcare Workforce Groups engaged in the ongoing discussion of how a focus area affects the library and health information setting and how libraries should prepare for and respond to these issues. (NN/LM NER)

5 HEALTHCARE WORKFORCE Community Colleges Communities of Interest Also referred to as a community of practice, the community of interest is a community of people who share a common interest or passion. They are a network of peers with diverse skills and experiences in an area of practice or profession. Such groups are held together by the members’ desire to help others in sharing information and the need to advance their own knowledge by learning from others. 8 HEALTHCARE WORKFORCE Community Colleges Overall community college enrollments continue to grow as traditional (recent high-school graduates) college- bound students, incumbent workers, and the unemployed increasingly become aware of the quality education available at community colleges where an array of affordable, efficient educational models are utilized to support both academic progression and career advancement.
