2 2 Afterschool programs keep kids safe, inspire learning and help working families. 19 % of children in California were unsupervised after school in 2014 for an average of 6.09hrs/week. America After 3PM revealed that children in California participate in an afterschool program, yet would be enrolled in a program 1,661,374 (25%) 2,435,254 (49%) if one were available to them. 72% of parents agree that afterschool programs can help excite children about learning. 73% of parents agree that afterschool programs help children gain workforce skills, such as team work, leadership & critical thinking 80% of California parents agree that afterschool programs can help reduce the likelihood that youth will engage in risky behaviors, such as commit a crime or use drugs, or become a teen parent. 4 4 THINK Together 2014-2015 Program Highlights Summer learning loss explains2/3 of the achievement gap between low and middle- income children. -Alexander, 1992 Student Town Hall w/ Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright @ The Nixon Presidential Library Summer Program @ Bassett HS Served over 300 students in the Teen Ctr. & Summer Tutoring. Summer PIQE parent workshops graduated 35 incoming freshman parents. Served over 507 students throughout the year. Provided daily homework support, academic enrichment & other program activities Engaged students in over 72hrs of additional STEM instruction LA84 Intramural Sports Programming for Middle school students. Focused on site word recognition & early literacy for grads K-3 rd Supported 18 HS seniors toward graduation eligibility through credit recovery. Provided 12 internships to HS students through WREP program.
