2 Rail Week is a UK-wide initiative to promote railway careers, and the railway sector as a whole, to schools and the general public. www.railweek.com Dates: Monday 27 th June – Sunday 3 rd July 2016 Monday – Friday: Schools, Colleges & Unis Saturday & Sunday: Family days

3 Who is involved in the North East? 4 What activities we want to deliver in the North East? Ideas so far include: Newrail: Hands-on workshops in schools Careers talks in schools Open lectures for general public Online quiz/competition Tyne and Wear Metro (all for school kids): Site visits: depot and control centre Careers talks Metro simulator experience Other plans in development

5 What resources do we have available? People like us (volunteers!) Activities developed by NewRail (Maths Girl Metro Ride, An Apple’s Journey, etc.) Activities available on YRP/RailWeek websites

6 Coordination and promotion Rail Week website centrally managed One brochure with all NE activities listed (?) Social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook) Local press (?)

7 Next steps… What could you do to promote railways in the Rail Week? If you are interested in organising an event or joining an activity in the North East please do let me know via email asap.
