Summative Assignment 2 Semester 2 Summative assignment (1000 words) A reflective evaluation on semester 2 - it should include a discussion of: What you have learnt about educational research during the semester. Your experience of putting the poster together Your experience of presenting your poster at the research event Your evaluation of other posters and presentations your own personal development e.g. confidence, acquisition of new skills this semester, feelings about your own progress and hopes for next year. your literature review (formative 1) as an appendix Your assignment should include references to substantiate the points you are making about presentation skills and research issues and approaches in education e.g. validity, ethics and methodologies.

Research approaches Quantitative - Involves collecting data such as facts and figures This data can be measured and presented in statistical formats e.g. bar/ pie chart; graphs Qualitative - involves analysing textual materials: transcripts of audio, video recordings of interviews, focus groups It is all about interpreting opinions and views from respondents

9. Validity “Validity has to do with whether your methods, approaches and techniques actually relate to or measure, the issues you have been exploring.” (Blaxter et al 2001 p.221) How are you going to ensure validity in your research? Sampling, type of methods you use? Use of literature? Ben Goldacre’s site?
