2 E-Safety and Prevent Duty Aims: Learn what e-safety is and why we need it. Introduce the JISC e-Safety online resources, along with CEOP and ThinkuKnow. Look at a strategic approach to e-safety. Gain an increased awareness of the Prevent Duty. Take away an e-safety and Prevent Padlet wall to share with you staff team. 2

3 What is e-Safety?  Being e-Safe relies on selecting appropriate privacy levels, knowing how to behave online and understanding the risks of using the Internet and mobile technologies: having the tools and the knowledge to be able to work safely. 3 What role does the internet play in young people’s lives?

8 A strategic Approach to e-Safety:  Complete an e-Safety audit tool  Develop a strategic approach to e-Safety – plan ahead  Is e-Safety on the agenda in meetings across the organisation?  Find out what social media sites are being used by learners and risk assess those sites.  How are you going to train staff and learners?  Engage learners in the SID2016 campaign.  Who needs to be involve? 10 10 Prevent Duty The Government has defined extremism in the Prevent strategy as: “vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs”. We also include in our definition of extremism calls for the death of members of our armed forces”.

11 11 Prevent Duty The Prevent strategy has three specific strategic objectives: Respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism and the threat we face from those who promote it; Prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure that they are given appropriate advice and support; and Work with sectors and Institutions where there are risks of radicalisation that we need to address.
