1 Writing

2 Equations are slightly different from expressions in that they have an equal sign. For example… 3x – 4Expression 3x – 4 = 8Equation When writing equations, it is important that you interpret what you read…this is the idea of circling your data and then translating it. For example… A cookie jar starts off with 32 cookies in it, and each day 2 cookies are eaten. After a certain number of days, there are 14 cookies remaining. Write an equation to represent this scenario. 32 – 2x = 14

4 1. Three less than half a number is nine. 2. Triple a number and five is fourteen. 3. Two less than the quotient of a number and three is nineteen. 4. Double the sum of a number and one is eight. 5. Triple the different of three and a number is twelve. 6. One more than a third of a number is twenty-eight. 7. Three-fourths of a number plus six is nine. 8. The product of six and the sum of three and a number is six. 9. Triple the difference of a number and four is twenty-one. 10. The sum of a number and four divided by three is one. 11. The different of a number and six times four is eight. 12. Five less than two-fifths a number is thirty-five.
