Rank the following know-how levels from the lowest level to the highest remember (memorize and repeat facts as they are given in various sources) understand (is able to explain, compare, interpret, describe) apply (use existing knowledge, theory, or facts in a new situation) analyze (examine, categorize information into parts, give reference to support new ideas, see the big picture) evaluate (give a statement, perform peer review, perform the self-evaluation) create (produce new information)

Traditional teaching University-level teaching should aim at here! In Bloom’s taxonomy, the higher level includes all the lower levels Bloom’s taxonomy

Group assignment – learning outcomes to get to know one topic of the teaching/research fields in- depth, to learn problem and research question defining, to learn communicating the progress of the work, to learn to make use of instruction, to learn and practice information finding and to evaluate the validity of the found information and results, to learn and practice research making skills, to learn to cooperate effectively within a group, and to learn to prepare a poster and give a poster presentation.

Miscellaneous information The assignment will be executed in the tutor groups The planned nominal extent is 2 ECTS. Hence, each student is assumed to use approximately 2 x 27 hours = 54 hours for this assignment (average 10 hours per week). The assignment is graded pass/improve. – Pass: the assignment is performed according to the instructions in given time, under fluent and efficient cooperation of the group, and sufficient and regular contribution of each member. The work includes analysis, reflection and new ideas. – Improve: Student has not participated regularly or participation is little, own analysis, reflection and ideas are not provided, information is only copied/repeated. The groups are highly recommended to select the “project manager”, who coordinates the working of the group and contributes the communication The groups can choose the field and topic according to their joint interest (not necessarily the tutor’s research field!)

Schedules The groups are expected to organize, schedule and execute the assignment independently (with the assistance of the tutor and/or Jari/Teppo) with the following schedules: – 5 October: Start of the assignment. Field (and tentative topic) selection and working plan. Distribution of the individual tasks for the group members. – 5 - 26 October: Working in the groups (see the return deadlines in the instructions given next) – 26 October - 2 November: Poster preparation – 2 - 7 November: Description of the individual contribution, poster presentation rehearsal – 9 November: Poster session, evaluation of the cooperation

How we start Read the instructions Ask if anything is unclear!!! Information on the field and topic selection will be given next
