2. What is the war of 1812? The war of 1812 was when the united states and Great Britain was fighting over freedom of the seas.

3. Why did Americans fight a second war against Great Britain? British ships captured many American ships that sailed to France. American wanted freedom of the seas. “Freedom of the seas” means that ships can sail wherever they want. Also, British made many Americans work for the British navy.

4. How did Tecumseh try to help Native Americans? Tecumseh helped the native Americans win some battles in Canada so they could get their land back. Later on, he was killed in a battle during the war of 1812.

5. People and Places James Madison – was the president during the war of 1812, who also thought they would win. Tecumseh – A native American leader who fought for the British of 1812. Dolley Madison – Wife of James Madison and saved the paintings of Washington and the government papers for the United States.

6. How did the war of 1812 help the United States? Nothing really changed much because of the war of 1812. Great Britain and other countries now knew that the United States would fight for what they wanted no matter what.

7. People and Places continued… Fort Mchenry – The fort that guarded the port of Baltimore, Maryland, and the American flag flew over the fort. Baltimore – Where the war between the British and the Americans in 1812 happened. Francis Scott Key – The one who wrote a song about our flag which is now known as the “ Star Spangled Banner.” Andrew Jackson – was the general of the american army. Who led 5,000 soldiers in the battle of New Orleans.
