1 Zechariah 4:1-10, page 1128 What does it all mean? Zechariah didn’t understand either!

2 Zechariah 4:1-10, page 1128 Lampstand like the one Moses was told to put in the tabernacle (Exodus 25) Context: 538BC, Zerubbabel, a descendant of King David leads group of Jews back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple after their exile in Babylon.

3 Zechariah 4:1-10, page 1128 BUT: they had trouble with the planning inspectors…. Work stopped. (The story is told in Ezra 4) After a number of years Zechariah tells the people they should carry on rebuilding.

8 Christ, the living stone, (v4) chosen and valuable (vv4, 7) but rejected. (v8) Us, also living stones (v5) being built into a temple (v5) stones who are royal priests (v9)

10 chosen and valuable (vv4, 7) God chose him. God places the highest value on him. (v4) God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. The wise man built his house upon the rock

13 Christ, the living stone, (v4) chosen and valuable (vv4, 7) but rejected. (v8) Us, also living stones (v5) being built into a temple (v5) stones who are royal priests (v9) All this is so that you can sing his praise. He brought you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

14 So we should Build on the rock Praise him! Rejoice in his grace and mercy Fulfil the role of a priest Remember the power of his Spirit at work in us
