HAVE WE GOT THE MESSAGE(S)? Neilston Shops and Businesses Survey Shopping has changed since the good old days. Customers gave us their views on how Neilston shops and businesses could bring a quality service that suited their lifestyles.

How often do you shop in Neilston?

What kinds of shopping do you do? (Select as many as relevant to you)

How much would you spend, per week, in Neilston, taking in all of the above

Did you know……….? If every household in the village spent £5 a week more in local businesses, a staggering extra £650,000 per year would flow into the Neilston economy. More jobs, more choice for local people and a livelier village centre for us all.

How would you rate Neilston’s shopping/local service provision at present?

What would attract you to Neilston’s shopping/services more?

What of the above is most important to you?

What is the biggest barrier to using Neilston shops/services more frequently?

IN A SEPARATE SURVEY, THE DIFFERENCE IN TAKINGS DURING THE FOOD TRAIL/MARKET…… For those participants that responded they showed between 30%-48% increase in their income for that day!

Future focus group…. We asked…”Would you be prepared to join a focus group or be contacted to help us work to improve our service. We currently have a list of 14 names of people who are happy to join a focus group!

Geograph y

Common threads…? There were many great comments about how the provision of services is great for the size of the village, but not as good as larger towns Lack of vegetable and fruit choices Co-op could extend their stock Choice of merchandise seemed to be an issue Lack of variety- need for a fish shop and a fruit and veg shop. One comment said, “I can buy 12 types of beer in the Coop but no oxo cubes!”

SOME QUESTIONS How will this data be useful to you? Do some of these findings need further research and development? Can the Forum begin to work on new initiatives coming out of these findings? What resources would it need?

The Bigger Picture Neilston’s economic development - how can all local businesses work together for mutual benefit?
