COCHRAN EMC-16 DIVE COMPUTER Quick Start Guide for operation Diving is a complex sport and many different situations may occur. Your Cochran EMC-16 is designed to compute and display data for any dive situation that you are likely to encounter. This Quick Start Guide, however, covers normal conditions only; please see the owner's manual for complete explanation of other operating modes. Cochran Undersea Technology a division of Cochran Consulting, Inc. Copyright 2000 - 2005 All rights reserved, Protected under one or more Patents, Patents Pending, or Trademarks.

There are three metal contacts on the right side of the EMC-16 Dive Computer; moisten your finger and place it over contact #2 and contact #1 for a few seconds to POWER UP the Computer. The unit will “beep” when it activates. Contact #3 Contact #2 Contact #1

Immediately after Power Up, the EMC-16 begins a SELF-TEST to insure that all systems are operating correctly. All display segments are visible and 5 short beeps are sounded as part of a successful SELF-TEST.

Immediately after the self-test, the EMC-16 enters the SURFACE MODE, and remains in this mode until it descends below 5 feet. Air Temperature Surface Time since power-up Barometric Altitude (2500 feet per bar) No bars = 0 – 2500 ft. 2 bars = 5000 – 7500 ft. If a dive is not initiated within one hour, the EMC-16 automatically powers down to conserve battery power.

If you have residual nitrogen, or if you have experienced an altitude change since the last dive, the SURFACE MODE displays additional information. Maximum Depth (of the last dive) Air Temperature Bottom Time (of the last dive) Surface Time (Amount of time since last dive) Time to Fly (Hours before safely flying) Dive of “Day” (Repetitive Dive Number)

Water Temperature Maximum Depth (so far this dive) Current Depth Bottom Time (so far this dive) NDC Time Remain (Time you can stay at current depth without Decompression) Ascent Rate (1 bar = 10-19 fpm) Note NDC Legend During a dive, the EMC-16 enters the DIVE MODE and the following information is displayed.

A “TWO MINUTE WARNING” is issued when no- decompression time reaches 2 minutes The REMAIN TIME numbers flash The WARNING LEGEND appears and flashes An AUDIBLE ALARM will be sounded

Staying at the same depth, or going deeper after the 2 minute warning expires, will cause the EMC-16 to enter the DECOMPRESSION MODE. If you plan to perform decompression dives, we recommend that you have adequate training.

Divers should be familiar with the DECOMPRESSION MODE for the EMC-16 Dive Computer, even if they never intend to dive in a manner that will cause the computer to enter this mode. The DECOMPRESSION MODE is explained in the EMC-16 Tutorial presentation. DECOMPRESSION MODE IMPORTANT: Please refer to the instruction manual for detailed information on the operation of your COCHRAN EMC-16

HAPPY DIVING, HAVE FUN, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, BE SAFE! Click on the door to go back to the beginning or click on the stop sign to exit.
