3 STRUCTURE - From 4 to 12 you are at primary school - ESO (Secondary Compulsory Education) is compulsory until you are 16. - After ESO you can study Baccalaureate or Vocational Training for 2 years. - You can go to university after taking an exam called “Selectivitat”. - You do not need to have the Baccalaureate to enter university (also through vocational training) - You can study higher education degrees of vocational training instead of going to university

4 SUBJECTS From first to third of ESO:​ English​ Sciences​ Geography and History​ Visual education​ Music​ Spanish ​ Catalan​ Mathematics​ Religion/ Alternative​ PE​ Tutoring ​ Optional Subjects At Fourth of ESO: You choose four subjects depending on the Baccalaureate you want to study among: Physics and Chemistry, French, Drawing, Music, Biology, Technology, Latin and other optional subjects… ​

5 MARKING SYSTEM AND EXAMS "Excel·lent" from 9 to 10​ "Notable" from 7 to 8.9​ "Bé" from 6 to 6.9​ "Suficient“ from 5 to 5.9​ "Insuficient" from 0 to 4.9 (Marks out of 10)

6 STRUCTURE OF OUR SCHOOL In Pau Vila, you can study ESO and 4 different kinds of Baccalaureate: Scientific Technological Humanistic Economic The teachers are grouped in departments where they discuss what to teach in their subjects. Number of hours from first and second of baccalaureate

7 METHODOLOGY Classes with overhead projectors to introduce the technology in the school. Project EDUCAT 1X1 was a project which consisted on working with computers in class.

8 BOOKS Teachers decide which books we are going to use in their subjects. Some teachers prepare dossiers/files instead of using books. Books must be bought by the students, but you can ask older people to give them to you (swapping system-recycling.

9 ADRESSING TO THE TEACHERS/STUDENTS Students address teachers by their names or sometimes by their surname. Students address to other students by their name, surname and sometimes with a nickname.

10 UNIFORM AND FEES At state schools the use of uniforms isn't compulsory, but at most private and concerted schools it is requested. State Schools are financed by the government, the students don’t pay. Concerted and private schools aren’t free, but concerted schools are cheaper than private.

11 OUTINGS AND ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL In 2 nd of ESO we went to Italy and to Carcassonne. In 3 rd of ESO we go to “Vall de Núria”, which is a project to be in contact with nature. In 4 th of ESO we go skiing and to France. We also do some outings every year.

12 SCHOOL PARTICIPATION Every class votes a delegate. Sometimes there are delegates’ meetings in which teachers and delegates discuss the problems in our school. The Assembly is made up by students. There, we discuss if we want to join a strike, we organize the special celebrations, etc.

13 PHYSICAL PLACES Classroom. Cafeteria. Library. Labs. Playground.

14 Holiday We start the academic year on 15th of September and we end it on 19th of July. We have the Christmas Holiday between the 24th of December and the 7th of January. We do the Easter Holiday on the 30th of March to the 6th of April. We also have other free days that are decided by the School Council.
