3 Gender Equality in the UK. Men and women now have equal rights in the United Kingdom. In the 19 th and early 20 th century, Men and women did not have equal rights. The idea was that married women were meant to stay at home and look after their children. It was not until the 1970`s that women gained the equal right to employment.

13 Famous women who fought for gender equality The suffragettes were a pressure group. They protested against the government to give women equal rights to men. For instance: Right to own property / be educated / to vote in elections.
