4. Mechanical Aspects of the Windmill We were tasked with designing a project that created electricity through wind power. Mechanically, our design consists of blades, made out of plastic cups connected to a central drive shaft. As the fan is turned on, wind causes the blades to rotate magnets that are connected to the shaft inside of a coil which converts the mechanical energy to electric flow.

5. Electrical Aspects of the Windmill  The magnet assembly is glued to the main drive shaft, which is rotated from the torque of the fan blades being subjected to the force from the wind. The magnet assembly is surrounded by the coil assembly for collection of electrical current to power the light bulb system.

7. Summary of Design/Construction  The Vertical Fan Blade design was innovative designs of the Green Energy & Agricultural fields  The functionality of the Alternator was the most problematic part of the project. - Lack of Voltage – Weak Magnets or Not enough Torque from the drive shaft.

8. A few challenges we were presented with in the design process were: thinking of how to make more current through the wires and having a greater electric field to produce such current, one problem we came across is the problem of materials to use and material cost which posed a major stumbling block in our final design, and finally the biggest problem we faced is building a coil that actually worked, after nine attempted coil designs and hundreds of yards of wire we are still, unfortunately, unsuccessful.
