2 Key Findings 1.Survey mapped bike racks and designated areas from Aurora Café (south) to 7- 11 (north) 2.Total count of bike rack spots plus allocated bike spaces = 700-750 19 bike rack locations = 540 spots 3 locations with designated areas w/o racks = 150 - 200 spots The Trident, Bar Bocce, BofA have designated areas 3.No consistent bike rack style 9 of 19 rack locations provided by merchants Merchant racks range from 2 bikes (Ace) to 36 bikes (Bar Bocce) 4.Largest spot is ferry terminal with 240 bikes 5.Difficult to locate 7 of 19 racks representing 65 rack spots 6.Southern Bridgeway lacking spots (Trident bike racks for customers only) 7.Caledonia lacking spots Note: All counts are assuming full rack capacity based on tightly aligned bikes utilizing every space on a rack. Reality may be 25% less

5 Suggestion 1 Add bike racks to new pier set alongside The Trident (+100) First visible location entering commercial part of town Excellent for merchants along South Bridgeway Tourists will enjoy pier 41 residents completed survey strongly opposing racks (Jan 2014) Current Condition Proposed Rendering Survey Results

6 Additional Suggestions Upgrade existing racks to new standard rack with identifying flag (estimate $8500) Replace 7 existing racks @ $250 each = $1750 Add identifying flag @ $250 each = $1750 Labor and haul out = $5000 Add new rack at Bridgeway & Richardson = $250 + $750 labor = $1000 Add approximately 6 sidewalk racks (2 bikes per) along Bridgeway between Caledonia and Poggio = $6000 Replace 2 street car spots with bike parking near Poggios Replace one car spot near Divino on Caledonia with bike parking Encourage owner of parking lot adjacent to Angelinos to accept bikes for a fee. Currently no bike parking allowed Introduce map (iPhone app) with designated bike parking spots

8 Portland, Oregon Request a Bike Rack A free bicycle rack can be installed on the sidewalk in front of your business as long as the location meets the minimum requirements. Call 503-823-CYCL (823-2925) and press "3" to request a rack. Space All Racks The bicycle rack footprint must fit entirely in the furnishing zone as defined by the Portland Pedestrian Design Guidelines page A-12. Ten feet is the minimum sidewalk width for siting bicycle racks. There shall be a minimum of 5' on the sidewalk behind or on the side of the parked bicycle to safely maneuver in and out of the rack without moving another bicycle. Bicycle racks shall not be located in residential areas with densities at R 2.5 or less. The rack should have a minimum of 2' clearance in length parallel to the curb on either side of the bicycle rack footprint. The rack shall be a maximum of 6' in length parallel to the curb and have adequate clearance available for pedestrian access. Bicycle racks can not be installed adjacent to disabled parking zones. Other locations not meeting these guidelines may be permitted upon City of Portland approval.
