We went to Aldi on Saturday and picked up some German Christmas goodies: Lebkuchen (german ginger bread) and Lebkuchen heart cookies, "Domino-Steine", which are little chocolate-covered cubes with a layer of jam, marzipan & lebkuchen, A German Stollen, which is a type of cake traditioanlly eaten at the time of year, and some other German chocolate. They only had one brand whereas in Germany there would be different brands of Lebkuchen-hearts etc..and you'd shop around till you find your favorite. That being said so far everything we have tried has tasted pretty good and it was all pretty cheap, since it was from Aldi's.

Germany was divided into east and west after WWII, a wall created through the city of Berlin to divide it. The Berlin wall was torn down in 1991 after the fall of Communism in the Soviet Union.
