12 Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs STATE APPROVING AGENCY Chapter 33 – Post 9/11 GI Bill Offers higher education and training benefits to servicemembers and honorably discharged veterans who served after September 10, 2001. Benefits are generally payable for 15 years following release from active duty. Some servicemembers may be eligible to transfer all or some unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children. The Department of Defense determines eligibility. Chapter 30 – Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB-AD) For active duty members who enroll and pay $100 per month for 12 months and are then entitled to receive a monthly education benefit once they have completed a minimum service obligation. 13 Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs STATE APPROVING AGENCY Chapter 1606 – Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB-SR) For Reservists with a six-year obligation in the Selected Reserve who are actively drilling and in good standing with the unit. Eligibility normally ends the day the servicemember leaves the Selected Reserve. Chapter 1607 – Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) Educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency declared by the President or Congress. National Defense Authorization Act of 2016 ended REAP on November 25, 2015. Some individuals will remain eligible for REAP benefits until November 25, 2019. 317-234-6062 / 1-800-400-4520

14 Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs STATE APPROVING AGENCY Chapter 35 – Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) Offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition. Children generally must be between 18 and 26 years of age. Benefits for spouses typically end 10 years from the date VA found the veteran eligible or from the date of death. Benefits for surviving spouses of servicemembers who died on active duty end 20 years from the date of death. Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship) Provides Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits to the children and surviving spouses of servicemembers who died in the line of duty while on active duty after September 10, 2001. Children generally must be between 18 and 33 years of age. A spouse has 15 years from the date of death of the servicemember to use the benefit. 1-317-232-3917 / 1-800-400-4520
