10 THINGS TO DO Identify your strengths. You all have a particular strength or talent. Whether you are an excellent leader and team-builder or can organize numerous activities in your schedule; these things can translate into desirable characteristics for potential employers. Write a custom resume tailored to each specific job. In fact, create a MASTER resume in which you can write down all your experiences. You can draw from your MASTER resume to create job specific resumes. Use strong language. Words like: manage, implemented, initiated. These words demonstrate to that you are capable & intelligent.

11 THINGS TO AVOID Do not write lengthy paragraphs. Remember, recruiters receive many resumes from countless hopefuls. If your resume looks resembles a novel- it will be discarded! Confuse the recruiter. Put your titles in bold. Don’t leave your recruiter guessing. Share too much information. Topics like your religion or favorite hobbies should not be included. Include photographs Make your resume too long. Forget to proofread. It shows carelessness.. Not the best start.

12 TYPES OF RESUMES Chronological More popularly used format. It will usually contain an objective statement & a chronological listing of all your employers along with related accomplishments Functional Take time to develop a strong functional resume. These highlight your abilities, such managing, or volunteering, rather than your chronological resume. You’ll still need to summarize your work history, but it’s usually done towards the bottom.

13 FUNCTIONAL A functional resume is particularly useful for people: Have gaps in their work history Don’t exactly fit the mold of what recruiters are looking for Are looking to transition into new careers The reason functional resumes work well in these situations is that many of us have acquired skills while working that are very transferable.
