2 Flag of the UK Description National flag of the UK is composed of one down and one cross strip. There are also two crossed strips which run from top left corner to bottom right one and from top right to bottom left. On the flag of the UK there are three colours: blue, white and red. The red cross is a symbol of Saint George who is patron of England. There is also white cross which is symbol of Saint Andrew who is patron of Scotland. Wales isn’t represented on the flag. It has got a different versions which are shown on the occasion of various events. Types flags of the UK: -National -Civil -State -Naval

4 Comments States which are dependent to the UK have got own flags. There is emblem of the UK on the flags. Flags of dependent territories to the UK: Australian, New Zealand and other ones.

5 History of flag of the UK History of flag of the UK began in 1603. Then, England and Scotland are independent countries. They were separated. Beside it, UK didn’t have a ruler because Queen Elizabeth I was died. However, her cousin was successor to the English throne. He had to rule two nations: England and Scotland. Scottish flag appeared first time in 1606. There were white diagonal crosses on a blue background. Union flag is a combination of English and Scottish national flags. In 1801, when Ireland became a part of Great Britain, the Union Flag was redesigned to include the Cross of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It is in this form that the British flag exists today.

6 United Kingdom emblem The Royal Coat of Arms of the UK is an official emblem of the UK. There is shield which is divided into four parts. It has got two versions: English and Scottish. English version – description At the left top you can see Royal Coat of Arms of England. There are three yellow lions. At the right top you can see a rampant lion and at the bottom, a harp of Ireland with English lions. There is also motto of England „ Dieu et Mon Droit” which means God and my law.

7 National anthem of England God save the Queen is national anthem of England. It is also national song of ex – British colonies. It can be also performed as God save the King during king’s rules. Different version is in New Zealand. There is titled as God defend New Zealand. God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen: Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us: God save the Queen. O Lord, our God, arise, Scatter thine enemies, And make them fall. Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks, On thee our hopes we fix, God save us all. Thy choicest gifts in store, On her be pleased to pour; Long may she reign: May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice God save the Queen.
