3  60% of all American families own pets as companions  That means 68.7 million houses have pets  Children learn responsibility and social skills  Elderly benefit from improved quality of life as a result of keeping pets  Which animal has a higher population number:  Cats or Dogs

5  Cats!- There are 10 Million more cats in the US with the cat owner averaging of two  BUT…..dogs are found in more households  32.4% of American homes have cats  37.2% of American homes have dogs

7  Provides thousands of jobs  $38.5 Billion input in US economy  15,000-18,000 pet stores in US

8 Americans spending on pets: $20.3 Billion  Veterinary expenses: #1 cost for owners  $11 billion annually  Pet food sales  $15.4 billion

10  Using the updated data, you will graph the information for one of the following three choices:  Annual spending increase over the past 10 years  Create a line graph to represent the annual spending on pets in the US since 1994  Data is online under the title “Total US Pet Industry Expenditures”  Must be colorful and clearly labeled You will have 20 minutes to complete this assignment.
