Changes to Skeleton document that forms the basis of PD TM6(02)07, Access Transmission Network Model for Evaluating xDSL Modem Performance, Jack Douglass, Paradyne International Chair TIA TR30.3 Nov 4 to 8, 2002, ETSI TM6 TD43 024t43 Presentation jdouglass@paradyue.com

Example General European Access Network Model Added “Fat Cable” 3000(?) Pair Binder, 0.32 mm, 30 m, no binders) is used from MDF to the Exchange Manhole Added Remotely Located DSLAM

Example Test Loop Make-up

Example General Loop Diagram

Crosstalk Impairment Combinations (IC) Loop XX (LOO/Length) – Residential

Crosstalk Impairment Combinations (IC) Loop XX (LOO/Length) – Business

Model Assumptions In a hardware simulator, NEXT is inserted at both ends so that tests can be run in both directions simultaneously In a hardware simulator, insertion of NEXT at one end of the loop produces an approximation of FEXT at the other end FEXT should be included at both ends?? NEXT model is the T1.417 issue 1, simplified NEXT model (sect A.2.2.1.1). FEXT model is the T1.417 issue 1, FEXT model (sect A.2.2.2).

Proposed Procedure Create straw-man Network Model(s) using sample template and experience Gather published and anonymous statistical information on European Access Network where ever possible –Loop (configuration, binder size, type of cable, gauge, etc.) –Crosstalk data (numbers and types of interferers currently installed and marketing deployment information) –Steady-State Impairments (e.g., Ingress impairments, AM Radio, etc.) –Transient Impairments Revise straw-man Network Model(s) based on statistical information Validate model using real xDSL equipment of different technologies Compare validation results with known real world performance

Next Steps Send a Formal Liaison to FSAN to request network statistics Consider opening a new Work Item (WI) or continue as a Permanent Document
