3 3 Mission “To promote cooperation among the accreditation bodies and interested parties in the Americas, aiming at the development of Conformity Assessment Structures to achieve the improvement of products, processes and services provided to consumers using internationally recognized mechanisms and reference documents.” IAAC Business Plan 1999 / 2000

4 4 IAAC Strategies Disseminate the importance of accreditation and promote the IAAC in the Americas. Establish a regional multilateral recognition agreement (MRA). Secure additional financial support from national, regional, and international agencies. Maintain all IAAC documentation and relevant international documentation in the languages of the member countries. Support technical competence in conformity assessment activities conducted by member bodies through technical assistance and training.

6 6 Goals è To lend support to the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) in eliminating technical barriers to trade through Multilateral Recognition Agreements (MRA) among Accreditation Bodies. è To support the market in the demands of MRA è To maintain equivalence in the Accreditation Programs for: Certification bodies : Laboratories: - Quality System - Testing - Product - Calibration - Personnel - Environmental - EMS Inspection Bodies

9 9 Projects Developed By IAAC / ALADI The main needs detected by the survey are: Training courses for assessors based on ISO / IEC Standards and Guides (25/17025,58,61, 62 and 65) Proficiency testing providers Proficiency testing training programs for testing and calibration Reference materials Agreement between conformity assessment organizations On the job training for accreditation body quality managers Training on the peer evaluation process

14 14 Technical Assistance and Training Projects Implemented and Coordinated by IAAC Projects to be implemented:  Perez Guerrero Trust Fund for economic and technical cooperation among developing countries members of the Group of 77- UNDP.  The project "Assessor Training based on ISO/IEC 17025" will be implemented next year.
