2 UNIT 2: Starting A New AutoCAD Drawing from the Quick Access Tool Bar or Application Menu Method 1 Select New from the quick access tool bar or New from the Application Menu. Either method will open the template dialogue box. Choose a template file. These files will have a.dwt extension

3 UNIT 2: Starting A New AutoCAD Drawing with QNEW Method 2: QNEW 1.Right-click on screen and select “Options” 2.In Options Dialogue Box select “Files Tab.” 3.Open “Template Settings” folder 4.Double click on “None” 5.Select template and close NOTE: Only works with Quick Access Tool Bar

4 UNIT 2: Starting A New AutoCAD Drawing With The Startup Wizard Method 3: Startup Wizard By default the wizard is toggled off. To activate the wizard type “startup” in the command line and press enter. At the prompt enter. This will toggle on the startup wizard. Select “New” from the quick access tool bar and follow the directions.

5 UNIT 2: Fundamentals for 3 Button Mouse Left Button Pick, click, or select Right Button Enables popup menus and options Middle Button or Wheel Allows user to zoom or pan. Hold down button to pan. You can also execute a Zoom-Extents-All by double-clicking the center button. This will zoom all objects within the drawing window

6 UNIT 2: Grid and Grid Snap Fundamentals Click and highlight to turn “Snap” on. This drawing tool or aid will force the cursor to snap to grid points. You can also select F9 on the keyboard Click and highlight to turn “Grid” on. You can also select F7 on the keyboard. This drawing tool or aid will allow you to create a series of points in the X and Y directions. NOTE: To change the snap and grid settings right-click on either icon and select “Settings.” A dialogue box will appear with numerous options for snapping and creating the grid.

8 UNIT 2: Text Fundamentals in AutoCAD There ate two types of text within AutoCAD: Multiline Text and Single Line Text. Multiline Text is created as one object whereas each line in Single Line Text is treated as a separate object

9 UNIT 2: Fonts Used in AutoCAD Standard AutoCAD Fonts have a.shx file extension. The default font is txt.shx. The more common or standard font used widely in the drafting industry is the Romans (roman simplex) font. It is smoother than the default txt.shx font. TrueType fonts are scaleable and have an outline. These types of fonts maintain their properties when increased or decreased in size.

Then enter Start Point, Text Height, and Rotation Angle
