Chitosan is a novel biocompatible steric stabilizer to prepare surface functionalized conducting nanoparticles to prevent the aggregation of polyaniline, polypyrrole and others. The objectives and scopes of our work are preparation and characterization of magnetic conductive polymer nanocomposite based on in-situ chemical polymerization. PPY/CHI/Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposite was synthesized by in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization. The structure and properties of PPY/CHI/Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposite were investigated by four-probe techniques, FT-IR, XRD, VSM, FTIR and XRD results confirmed the present of Fe 3 O 4, PPY and CHI. XRD shows that the present of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles with cubic spinal structure in the nanocomposite.[ICSD 01-075-0033].The PPY/CHI and PPY/CHI/ Fe 3 o 4 shows broad peak around 25-28 (2) proved the existence of polypyrrole conducting polymer. Figure 1 XRD curves of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticle, PPY/CHI and PPY/CHI/ Fe 3 O 4 Figure 2: TEM micrograph of nanocomposite (PPY/CHI / Fe 3 O 4 ) By increasing Fe 3 O 4 content up to 15 wt.%, the magnetic properties increased (Magnetization reached to 5.9679 emu/g), the conductivity first increased, and then decreased. The optimum electrical conductivity measured was about 4.17 Scm -1 in nanocomposite prepared from 0.3 M pyrrole, 0.1% chitosan and 3% Fe 3 O 4 nanopartcle. A core-shell structure consisting of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticle is confirmed by TEM. TEM reveals Fe 3 O 4 NP cover by PPY/CHI layer with average diameter of 107 -150 nm. ( the size of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticle is > 50 nm ) Some Applications Abdi M.M.,Anuar Kassim (2009)Journal of Materials Science,44:3682 Chung,D.L. (2001) Carbon, 39(2), 279-85 Geetha S. et.al. Polypyrrole/Chitosan/ Ferric oxide nanocomposite, PPY/CHI/Fe 3 O 4, with good electrical and magnetic properties was successfully prepared by in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization in the presence of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles under simultaneously sonication and mechanical stirrer. FT-IR and XRD revealed an interaction between Fe 3 O 4, PPY and CHI. TEM showed that nearly all Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles are covered by PPY/CHI. By increasing Fe 3 O 4 content from zero to 15 wt.%, the magnetic properties increase and the conductivity first increases, and then decreases. The conductivity reached a maximum level at 3 wt.% Fe 3 O 4 content.
