1 Plot - the sequence of events, cause/effect, conflict, relationships, or the storyline. Many stories follow a pattern called plot.

2 Exposition Exposition is the introduction of characters and setting. It hooks the audience into the reading.

3 SHREK is grumpy, smelly and ugly ogre, living peacefully in a swamp.

4 Rising Action Rising action is when the conflict develops, suspense builds, and we learn more about the characters and conflict(s).

6 Rising Action Conflict #2: Shrek agrees to rescue Fiona in order to get his swamp back.

7 Rising Action Conflict #3: After Shrek rescues Fiona, they do not get along at first but they grow to like one another.

8 Rising Action Conflict #4: Fiona secretly turns into an ogre at night.

9 Rising Action Conflict #5: Fiona must marry Farquaad even though she doesn’t like him.

10 Climax or Turning Point - character faces conflict, main character’s attitude changes.

11 Shrek breaks up the wedding, kisses Fiona and Dragon eats Farquaad.

12 Falling Action - the loose ends are tied up, conflict(s) are being solved, and the action starts to end.

13 Falling Action Shrek and Fiona get married. Fiona remains an ogre.

14 Resolution - usually a reasonable ending and conflict is resolved, or taken care of.

15 Resolution Shrek and Fiona live happily ever after.
