 Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably. Primary Focal Hyperhidrosis: Occurs on very specific areas of the body. The most common focal areas are the hands, feet, underarms, and head or face. Secondary Generalized Hyperhidrosis: Experience sweating on larger areas of the body.

Why are you so sweaty?  The amount of sweat produced is regulated by the hypothalamus, over activity of the hypothalamus or sympathetic nerves can result in hyperhidrosis  The nervous system goes into overdrive, telling the eccrine glands in the skin to produce more in response to emotion  Can be passed from parents to kids through genetics  Occurs as a result of a medical condition  Medicine or supplements

 Common Triggers include heat, feeling anxious, and certain foods. Common triggers contain: Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) Spicy foods Alcohol

 Typically, hyperhidrosis first appears in childhood adolescence. The condition often improves when the patient enters the middle 20s and 30

 Clothing gets damp and must be changed several times  Sweating is so excessive that its embarrassing and distressing  Wet skin folds are prone to irritation  Sweaty feet develop an unpleasant smell, and are prone to irritation or secondary infection

Treatment Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate: A strong antiperspirant, works by blocking the openings of the sweat ducts. The aluminum salts in this preparation collect in the sweat ducts and block them. Iontophoresis: This type of treatment involves using electrical stimulation. Patients place their hands in a bath through which an electrical current is passed, which seems to stun the sweat glands and decrease the secretion of sweat

 Botulinum toxin injections (Botox) into the armpits have revolutionized the treatment for this condition, since the injections can reduce or even stop sweating for three to six months. Botox is also effective for the palms and soles. They may temporarily weaken the small muscles of the hands. Regional or local anesthesia is typically given in these sites because the injections are painful

 Medications: May prevent simulation of sweat glands. These are prescribed for certain types of hyperhidrosis such as excessive sweating of the face. Medicines have side effects and are not right for everyone. A common group of medications known to reduce sweating are anticholinergics Common side effects include ○ Dry mouth ○ Dry eyes ○ Blurry vision ○ Heart palpitations

 Surgery: Typically considered only when less invasive medical treatments have failed. Surgical treatment of hyperhidrosis involves removing or destroying the specific part that causes sweating. Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) refers to surgical interruption of the sympathetic nerves responsible for sweating. Sympathectomy is an operation intended to destroy part of the nerve supply to the sweat glands in the skin.

 Wear loose clothing under armpits. Avoid constricting clothing  Avoid clothes that more easily show up sweat marks  Try using normal antiperspirants regularly. There is a difference between antiperspirants and deodorants. Antiperspirants reduce the release of sweat; deodorants mask any unpleasant smells  Avoid triggers which can make things worse such as heat or spicy foods  Change your socks at least twice a day  Use an absorbent foot powder twice a day
