Studying one country in Europe A project to study the geographical patterns of one country.

Aim :-to explain the physical and human patterns of one country by analysing maps, photos and text Success criteria :- [1]able to draw an accurate map which shows physical and human features [2]able to describe the patterns of location of these features [3]able to summarise facts in a sensible way

Creating a map The teacher will allocate you an information sheet about one country in the European Union (possibly one or two of you will have to share a sheet) Your task is to create a ½ page map in your book which includes the following. The fairly accurate shape of the country Labelled dots noting the location of the capital city and 4 other cities/towns A labelled line showing the course of one river which flows through the country The name of the highest mountain One other feature of your choice

Describing the physical geography Next you will have to write a paragraph about the physical geography which includes the following: A description of the shape of the country and its size (km North-South/East-West) A description of its relief (where the high and low land is, names of mountains etc.) A description of its location in Europe Remember to use the ways of describing where places are you learnt in Year 7, for example: compass points, between two other place, near, on the coast, inland, opposite another place, which countries border this country

Describing the human geography Next you will have to describe where the cities/towns are and where people live (population distribution). Where do many live and where do few live? Where is the capital city? Again remember to use the ways of describing where places are you learnt in Year 7, for example: compass points, between two other place, near, on the coast, inland, opposite another place, which countries border this country

Describing the landscape Now you will have to describe what the landscape looks like. Describe at least one photo in detail, please. Try to note down what features from the photos are similar or different to how Britain looks.

Describing the climate The average temperature in Wales is 15°C during the summer (i.e. cool) and 5°C during the winter (i.e. mild). Write a paragraph comparing the climate (pattern of temperature) in Wales and the country you have studied. If the patter of climate varies within Wales or the country you are studying, remember to state what the pattern is.

Points of interest Write a paragraph to finish with about any other subjects you would like to mention. The could include: something about the country’s history the date of entry into the European Union food currency any other facts you know yourself
