“If marriage were of human origin, then human beings would have a right to set it aside; but since God instituted marriage, only He has the right to do so. Marriage is an institution which includes individual marriages. It’s subject to the rules and regulations set down by God. Individuals may marry, be divorced, and be remarried only if, when, and how He says they may without sinning. The state has been given the task of keeping orderly records, etc.; but it has no right or competence to determine the rules for marriage and for divorce. That prerogative is God’s.” - Jay Adams Divorce and Remarriage Revisited

God created marriage God hates divorce God regulates divorce and remarriage God redeems divorce

“Oaths and Integrity” Matthew 5:33-37

Integrity Adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.

Oaths Exodus 20:7 “You shall not misuse the name of the L ORD your God, for the L ORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” Numbers 30:2 “ 2 When a man makes a vow to the L ORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.”

James 5:12 “ 12 Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.

“Here is a great eternal truth. Life cannot be divided into compartments in some of which God is involved and in others of which he is not involved; there cannot be one kind of language in the shipyard or the factory or the office; there cannot be one kind of standard of conduct in the Church and another kind of standard in the business world. The fact is that God does not need to be invited into certain departments of life, and kept out of others.

He is everywhere, all through life and every activity of life. He hears not only the words which are spoken in His name; He hears all words; and there cannot be any such thing as a form of words which evades bringing God into any transaction. We will regard all promises as sacred, if we remember that all promises are made in the presence of God.” – William Barclay

The Message Empty Promises 33-37 “And don’t say anything you don’t mean. This counsel is embedded deep in our traditions. You only make things worse when you lay down a smoke screen of pious talk, saying, ‘I’ll pray for you,’ and never doing it, or saying, ‘God be with you,’ and not meaning it. You don’t make your words true by embellishing them with religious lace. In making your speech sound more religious, it becomes less true. Just say ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ When you manipulate words to get your own way, you go wrong.”
