4  Satellites – natural or artificial bodies that revolve around large bodies like planets.

5  Earth’s moon is also called Luna.  All planets have moons except Mercury and Venus.

6  The United States achieved the first manned landing on Earth's Moon as part of the Apollo 11 mission commanded by Neil Armstrong.  On July 20, 1969, Armstrong, accompanied by Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin, landed the lunar module Eagle on the surface of the Moon.  Armstrong and Aldrin spent a day on the surface of the Moon before returning to Earth.  A total of six such manned moon landings were carried out between 1969 and 1972.

11  Gravitational forces from both the sun and the moon continuously pull on the Earth.  Although the moon is much smaller that the sun, the moon’s gravity is the dominant force behind Earth’s tides.

16 The Moon produces no light of its own! The Moon looks bright because it reflects light from the sun.

17 The Near Side The Moon rotates in 28.5 days. The Moon orbits Earth in 28.5 days. Because the Moon rotates and revolves at the same rate, we only see one side. The NEAR side There is NO DARK SIDE There is a FAR side….

18 The rotation period of the Moon with respect to the universe is exactly the same as the rotation period of the Moon around the Earth.
