2. 2 Participating Sites 2 community mental health programs; serve adults with psychiatric problems with pervasive impairments across different areas of functioning (Axis 1 diagnosis). Interprofessional staff mix (SOWK, nursing, psychology therapists, independent living support workers, OT) Services: intake assessments, psychiatric consultations, individual and group therapy, medication management, outreach and transition support. Regular student placements from nursing, social work, occupational therapy, psychology and psychiatry.

4. 4 Staff Strategies Sharing of complex clients Using observation room for teaching/feedback Addictions expertise (addictions counselor, continuing education opportunities, addictions assessment tools) Staff retreat for communication, team building, visioning Workshop for staff and students (IP competencies framework, IP mentoring)

5. 5 Student Strategies Fall 2010: 5 students were placed at the two community MH clinics (2 nursing students, 3 SOWK students) 1.IP mentoring: students spent time with other providers to learn about their role as part of the team (shadowing, spending time with clients, case conference, triage meetings, team meetings) 2.Student discussion sessions: 2-hr sessions every 2 weeks to discuss CIHC IP competencies and debrief on IP mentoring activities (role clarification, conflict management skills, collaborative leadership)
