Cluster Active Archive Status of DWP Data Activities Simon Walker, Keith Yearby, Michael Balikhin Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, University of Sheffield

20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany Management Michael Balikhin DWP PI Keith Yearby TM DWP Cluster TCOR Double Star Simon Walker Archive Scientist CORR, LOG, PIOR ICD, UM, CR

20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany Current Status TCOR –Data for Jan-Jun 2014 has been delivered. DWP_LOG UT_PIOR –Delivered to end August 2014. CORR_FX, CORR_ST –Delivered to end January 2014.

Software Development 20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany Development and maintenance of software tools (internal to the DWP group) is on going. The current state of the tools is sufficient for the routine production of the DWP data sets and caveat files. Mac COR, DWP_LOG, UT_PIOR, Caveats Linux COR  CORR, CORR plots CEFpass

20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany Header Files No activity (updated before previous meeting).

20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany Documentation ICD User Manual Calibration Report No changes

Caveats 20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany ALL DATA SETS New set of Caveat files generated and delivered Several files had problems with ingestion Currently checking source files

Action Items 20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany CC19-AI-01 Check that the headers are complete and correct. This concerns particularly various descriptions in different levels (experiment, instrument, dataset). Response The descriptions in the experiment, instrument, and dataset header files have been updated. A new set has been delivered to CAA. CC19-AI-04 to reprocess the pitch-angle products for the reprocessed FGM dates (for list, see slide 7 of annex 7). Response All data periods mentioned in this action item have now been reprocessed and delivered. (There are still a number of other periods of reprocessed FGM data for which the CORR products require reprocessing.)

Action Items 20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany DWP13-AI-04 To provide missing PIOR file from May 2011 Response UT_PIOR files for mid May 2011 were reprocessed and delivered to CAA. DWP13-AI-09 to deliver the CORR plots for 26-27 Aug 2011 Response CORR quicklook plots for 2011-08-26 and 2011-08-27 were redelivered DWP13-AI-11 to investigate if TCOR is correct in the beginning and end of the quarters in early years, see e.g. C1-Apr 2001, C3-Mar 2003, C4-Jul 2002 Response The TCOR data that is present is correct. However, there is a large gap (~ 60 hours) at the beginning or end of the quarters, probably due to not including the DIFF segment that spans the boundary. This could be fixed by reprocessing including the source data for a few days from adjacent quarters.

Action Items 20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany DWP13-AI-16 to investigate the following modifications to the DWP onboard operations: (1)use an original operations scheme where the parallel PEACE zone was used; (2)collect ACF only for a narrow azimuthal range, e.g. one PEACE energy sweep, which will narrow the pitch-angle range of ACF, this could also be done during NM1; (3)in BM1, one could select a number of energies per spin (e.g. 4 energy bins) Response Mod (1) can be done easily by asking PEACE to revert to the commanding originally used. We will ask for this to be done. (2) is more difficult and would require a large number of commands to upload the patch particularly when there are BM1 operations (separate patches would likely be needed for normal mode and burst mode operations). The same problem applies to (3) if this means stepping the energy several times per spin in BM1. Another alternative (which was included on Double Star) is to limit the range of stepped energies, so instead of stepping through the whole 14, we use a smaller range where a useful count rate is more likely to be seen. The useful energies are then acquired more often. This is a simple patch, compatible with both normal and burst modes.

Action Items 20th CrossCal 15-17th October, 2014 Gottingen, Germany OR9-R16 The board commends the recent progress in the calibration and delivery of Double Star data. The board recommends that the first version of the entire dataset from all European instruments is delivered and ingested before the end of October 2014. The ingestion of prime parameter data should be considered. Response Plots (COMBI and SPECPLOT) have been delivered for whole mission. PSD plots for 2004 delivered. COR data processed for 2004. OR9-R18 The board recommends that the DWP instrument team checks Figure 1 of DWP-UG with the new Appendix E of PEACE-UG for consistency in coordinate systems (cross references may be done if required). Response This figure was taken from a previous PEACE UG. It is consistent with figures shown at the last CrossCal. When the new version is available a comparison will be made.
