Grammar. Have/has/have got/has got Презентация преподавателя ГБОУ НПО ПЛ «Краснодеревец СПб» Вишневой Натальи Леонидовны

Have and have got We often use have got/ has got rather than have/ has. So you can say: - We have got a new car. or We have a new car. - Tom has got a headache or Tom has a headache.

The verb “have/has” in persons Persons Singular Plural 1 I have We 2 You -You have 3 He She has It They

Insert “have” or “has”: 1. I … a cigarette. 2. We … a dog. 3. He … many friends. 4. They … a new flat. 5. You … a nice girlfriend. 6. Molly … a red dress.

Negative form. Persons Singular Plural 1 I have not (haven`t)We 2 You -You have not (haven`t) 3He She has not It (hasn`t) They

Make these sentences negative: 1. I … a cigarette. 2. We … a dog. 3. He … many friends. 4. They … a new flat. 5. You … a nice girlfriend. 6. Molly … a red dress

Interrogative sentences Persons Singular Plural 1 Have I … ? we …? 2 - youHave you …? 3 he … Has she… ? it … they …?

Make these sentences interrogative: 1. I have a telephone. 2. We have a sister. 3. He has many toys. 4. They have a new computer. 5. You have a nice girlfriend. 6. Molly has a red dress.

In questions and negative sentences there are 3 possible forms: Questions Have you got any money? Do you have any money? Have you any money? (less usual) Has he got a car? Does she have a car? Has she a car? (less usual) Negative sentences I haven`t got any money. I don`t have any money. I haven`t any money. She hasn`t got a car. She doesn`t have a car. She hasn`t a car.

WE ALSO USE “HAVE” FOR A NUMBER OF ACTIONS. FOR EXAMPLE: Have for actions Have breakfast/ lunch/ dinner/ a meal/ a drink/ a cup of coffee/ a cigarette… Have a swim/ a walk/ a rest/ a holiday/ a party/ a good time… Have a bath/ a shower/ a wash… Have a look (at something) Have a baby (= give birth to a baby) Have a chat (with someone)

“Have got” is not possible: I usually have a big breakfast in the morning. (not “have got”!) Compare: -I have a bath every morning. (= I take a bath= this is an action) - I`ve got a bath. (There is a bath in my house.)

When you use have for actions, you can use continuous forms: is having/ are having/ was having… - Where is Mike? - He is having a bath. (now)

In questions and negative sentences you must use do/ does/did: I don`t usually have a big breakfast. (not “I usually haven`t”!!!) What time does Ann have lunch? (not “has Ann lunch”!!!) Did you have a swim this morning? (not “had you a swim”)

Test yourself. Insert have or have got: 1. … you a light, please? (have/ have got) 2. I … a breakfast every morning. (have/ have got) 3. … you a pen? I need to make some notes. (have/ have got) 4.
