6 Searching for WW Documents All documents filed by legal description Subdivision, Lot, Block (Moose Meadows II, Lot 4, Block 2) Survey number and tract or lot (USS 5506, Tract C) “Township and Range” (T26N R4W SEC29 Tax Parcel H18) Use of online Septic Tracking System (SEPTS) databaseSEPTS Tips for productive searches A very brief demo Requesting a paper document search Timeline is 5-10 working days Advice for when the department cannot locate a document Improving and Protecting Alaska's Water Quality6

7 No documents exist… now what? If a lender requires on-site wastewater system documentation Advise owner to hire a professional engineer to evaluate system Engineer provides submittal to department Department will complete process by: Uploading documents into SEPTS; or Issue a written approval to the submitting engineer Review timeline is 30 days; may be longer if plan is incomplete If a total replacement of a conventional on-site wastewater system A Certified Installer can be used if area is suitable for such systems An Approved Homeowner can also install system if area is suitable Improving and Protecting Alaska's Water Quality7

8 Common Scenarios On-site wastewater system documents do not match property Number of bedrooms differs from WW system documents ESPR cannot change design without a professional engineer’s submittal Lot modifications such as Cut banks; Retaining walls; or New private or public water systems installed. Contact your local ESPR office for assistance with lot changes Change of legal description from that listed on WW documents Currently requires engineering submittal to issue new document Effective April 1, 2016: land owners submit change form Improving and Protecting Alaska's Water Quality8
