 In December 2010 in Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia, after being publically humiliated by police officers, Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire in front of a government building.  That same day, protests took place in the town. It only took days for the protests to spread to the rest of Tunisia. They wanted the current ruler to step down.

 Within in a month, Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled from the country.  The success in Tunisia led other Middle Eastern countries to revolt, such as Egypt, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, and Oman. Success varied from country to country.

 The Arab Spring was essentially the reaction to Arabian dictatorships and suppression and/or outright violation of human rights.  Although everyone involved with the protests agreed on removing corrupt leaders, no one knew what to replace it with.

 The Arab Spring could be seen as a failure if one expected immediate results.  However, the Arab Spring uprisings show that the might of the people are enough to force corrupt rulers from their positions.  The uprisings have resulted in authoritarian governments no longer being acceptable.

 There has also been an explosion of political activity in the Middle East.  However, instability has formed between seculars and Muslim extremists, and between Sunni and Shiite Muslims.  Problems with civil wars and the future of economics are also abound.
