3 OBJECTIVE OF THE TRIP Networking and sharing experience Acquaint MP’s with green initiatives, renewable energy options and programs in Germany Create better understanding of renewable energy policies, laws and possibilities for Namibia

4 STAKEHOLDERS CONSULTED Claudia von Fersen & Piet Kleffmann, KFW Bank -The role of the Bank in Development matters -Ownership and projects in Namibia Visit to carpark Rehbstock in Bonn -Carpark consist of 2 building of 6 and 2 floors -Roof entirely covered by solar panels – electricity generation -Both buildings are 100% powered by solar energy -Excess power generated sold to electricity distributors with agreement to sell to nearby houses and areas.

5 Stakeholders consulted - continued German Aerospace Institute – DLR (Institute for Solar Research) -Robert Pitz-Paal – Head -DLR largest Institute of Solar Research in Germany -investigate and develop concentrated solar energy for heat, electricity and fuel -Aim to strengthen Germany’s economic position & sciences in global competition

6 Stakeholders consulted - continued Mr. Holger Loew, Head of Department of Infrastructure (German Renewable Energy Federation -Provided an overview of the history of Germany’s Electrification Thomas Duveau, Head of Business Development – Mobisol -Company offers solar home systems solutions to low- income customers in developing countries

7 Stakeholders consulted - continued Prof. Dr. Ulf Moslener& Martin Cremer, UNEP Collaboration Centre for Climate & Sustainable Energy Finance -Frankfurt School of Finance – combine project implementation with think tank activities -Apply research work & studies markets -GEtFit Program of Uganda – target investments in small renewable energy projects -18 projects developed from this program -2014, Uganda ranked 10 th from 55 countries in world and 3 rd among African countries in Climate Scope ranking

8 Stakeholders consulted - continued Christian Maly, Lecturer at Leuphana University – Luneburg - Looked at Renewable Energy Act (EEG) -What causes renewable energy sector to be one of the fastest growing industries in the world Sebastian Helgenberger, Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, Potsdam -Link between renewable energy and democracy -How renewable energy changed society and society changed the economy

9 Stakeholders consulted - continued Feldheim, Germany’s renewable energy village -Village is 60 km from Berlin with 128 residents -On the surface its ordinary -Below Feldheim lone street runs network of electrical cables -Wind park with 47 turbines

10 Feldheim - continued -Newest and largest turbines to produce 9 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year -Village windfarm produces enough renewable energy that 99 % is sold on energy market -Unique - separate grids for district heating and power supply - heat & electricity produced locally fed to consumers
