6 Pet Insurance policies are divided into three categories. While all have a value on the market, before you insurer your puppy with pet insurance, you need to know what the situation with all types is. Firstly there is accident only, which means that you can only claim for when you pet is involved in an accident, like a car accident. Then there is time limited, which means that your pet is covered for accident and illnesses during the policy period (generally 12 months) but then that injury or illness is placed in as an exclusion when the policy is renewed. © 2013 Petplan.net.nz. 7 The final, and best kind of pet insurance policy, is a covered for life policy, which means that as long as you renew the policy every year, and there is no gap between the policy renewals, your pet will be covered for anything that is not already placed as an exclusion. If you opt for a covered for life policy, and you activate it when your dog is only a puppy, you are very likely to have no exclusions. © 2013 Petplan.net.nz. All rights reserved.

8 Make sure that you keep your puppy up to date with their vaccination and check-ups. After you have insurance in place with a good provider, you will be expected to maintain their general health.
