Principle and checkpoint Principle III. Provide Multiple Means of Engagement Checkpoint 9.2: Facilitate personal coping skills and strategies

Example or resource selected (title given), the age group intended for, and the content area it covers. 401 Coping Skills Strategies Lesson Plans Reviewed by Teachers A friend, starting with you! For ages K-5 Reading and Art

Describe the example/resource explored explaining how it works A Friend Begins With You!! Students create an invitation to invite a friend to lunch. In this invitation lesson plan, students read the story The 329th Friend and create an invitation as an advertisement of themselves to invite someone to lunch.

“Key Considerations” for the checkpoint. How does this help learners meet the goal? It motives learners to critically think and express themselves through creativity, to think and decided who they will send the invitation to, and encourages and motivates children to develop language and prewriting skills. How does this account for the variability of all learners? It allows children to chose the form of creativity on their developmental level and through their own interest and who they want to invite. Do learners have the skills necessary to deal with adversity? I really think preschoolers if taught are able to deal with adversity. Through teaching problem solving and critical thinking skills; children can learn to deal with adversity. However; children need to be in an environment that is safe, loving and nurturing so that they feel they have a well develop support system and they feel safe and loved.

Idea for how this resource might be used effectively during instruction or assessment opportunities in your current classroom or your future practice. This can serve as a PBL for preschoolers by letting them decorate the invitation and teacher dictate the message to who they want to invite to lunch. Or the more advance students can copy a message to write and sign their name. This can be used to invite family members, staff members, community Helpers, or a friend in the classroom to sit with them. This will enhance literacy, language, social emotional and creative expression and also motivate critical thinking skills.
