2 2 Agenda “Sensors That Survive and Why” - 20 minutes Quick review of presence sensors technology Common causes of sensor failures (water intrusion, shock and vibration) Counteract possible failures (Special gaskets, encapsulation, sealant…) Examples of Eaton Sensors New products - 15 minutes Metal tubular inductive proxes: E57 G/P/PS (General Purpose, Performance, Performance Short Body) Safety door interlocks: RS (Reed switch) Q&A - 10 minutes

4 4 Common Modes of Sensor Failures Water leakage (ingress) Look for IP67 or even better IP69K rating IP69K rating indicates product has been tested with high temperature and high pressure wash down application. IP67 rating indicates product has been tested to be protected against dust and immersion up to 1m. Shock and vibration Comes from MIL-STD 810F used by manufacturers to test for ruggedness of product. Look for products that are manufactured encapsulated with bonding material to keep raw components from coming loose.

5 5 E50 NEMA-style 6P+ LS (IP69K) Features Totally sealed body/receptacle designed to meet tough automotive specifications Prewired and epoxied for maximum sealing performance, even underwater Uses the same head as the standard E50 Comes with a mask on the label Perfect for food, waste-water treatment and other corrosive environments Benefits/Applications Best sealed limit switch in the world No application is too tough The most survivable limit switch a customer can buy Customized versions available with special connectors, labeling, etc.

6 6 E58 Harsh Duty Series (IP69K) Benefits The most rugged photoelectric sensor you can buy Exceptional environmental and chemical resistance High optical performance necessary to burn through airborne contaminants Highly visible 360º indicator LED Features Rugged construction includes a stainless steel housing, tempered glass lens cover and Viton® mechanical seals 18mm and 30mm-diameter tubular bodies Available in through-beam, reflex, polarized reflex and Perfect Prox® background rejection Variety of connector options available Applications Food Processing Automotive Metalworking Car Wash Transportation

7 7 iProx™ (IP69K) Features Out-of-the-box performance best in class 360º dual colored indicator LEDs Ultra-high electrical noise immunity Up to 3 times sensing range Ability to clone competitive sensors Programmable features including ranges, side metal rejection, timing Benefits Versus Contrinex – offers 3x range, but low noise immunity (tripped by walkie talkie) Versus Turck Uprox – standard ranges, no intelligence, fixed output, premium price Efector Quadranorm – field wireable, standard ranges, no intelligence Telemechanique Osiprox – standard ranges, pushbutton to adjust sensing range and output, easy to tamper with Applications Automotive, Metalworking, Packaging Reduce inventory and increase turns for distributors and customers Increased range = longer sensor life Reduce downtime because any sensor can be reconfigured to replace another
