Bob Roberts (center guy)

Why you need the Holy Spirit Ever been confused about what to believe You were confused and scared and backed down. Have you ever been in a situation when you did not know or you did not have the strength to respond?

Why you need the Holy Spirit You want to do something for the kingdom and the people of God,, but you are paralyzed. You don’t know where to start a spiritual conversation.

In John 14, Jesus introduced His followers to the person of the Holy Spirit. Now, in John 16 Jesus introduces His followers to the purpose of the Holy Spirit.

To Jesus original disciples “Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away.

To Jesus original disciples Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. (John 16:5-7 NIV)

To Jesus original disciples (vv.5- 7) The disciples are alone and they are scared. (vv.5-6) No follower of Jesus has ever been left completely alone (v.7) The word counselor is a Greek word: paraclete and it literally means: one who comes alongside.

To those who are undecided about Jesus When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer;

To those who are undecided about Jesus and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. (John 16:8-11)

To those who are undecided about Jesus We are convicted in regard to sin which is rejection of God’s messenger and message.

To those who are undecided about Jesus We are convicted in regard to righteousness; The Holy Spirit “enforces the absolute standard of God’s character, which is how we measure our own thoughts and actions.

To those who are undecided about Jesus The Word For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

To those who are undecided about Jesus The Word Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35)

To those who are undecided about Jesus The Word is absolute and unchanging. 2+2=4

To those who are undecided about Jesus Walk in life

To those who are undecided about Jesus We are convicted in regard to judgment always occurs when an act or thought is evaluated by an absolute principle.

To those who are undecided about Jesus

To present day disciples of Jesus “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

To present day disciples of Jesus He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. (John 16:12-15)

To present day disciples of Jesus The Holy Spirit points us in the direction of maturity in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit never points to Himself. He points to Jesus.

Bottom Line: Holy Spirit is the free gift of God who frees me from the grip of sin.

Two things we must do: Repent – change our mind "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."

Two things we must do: Repent – change our mind When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"

Two things we must do: Repent – change our mind Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:36-37)

Two things we must do: Repent – change our mind The word repent comes from two Greek words: Meta – change Noia – mind

Two things we must do: Submit our will You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9)
