18 Evolution Who is Charles Darwin? Charles Darwin is the father of evolution. He traveled to the Galapagos Island on a ship called the Beagle. He wrote the book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.

19 Evolution What is natural selection? What does natural selection act on? Natural selection is the process in which the best suited organisms will survive, reproduce, and pass their traits to their offspring. Organisms not suited will not survive and reproduce. Natural selection acts on phenotype not the genotype of an organism.

20 What did you Learn? Who is the father of Evolution? –Charles Darwin What did he discover at the Galapagos Island? –In order for the finches to adapt to their environment, they had to evolve. What is Natural Selection? –Organisms that are best suited for their environment will survive, reproduce and pass their traits to their offspring.
