5 How Natural Selection Works 1. In any population, there is variation. 2. Populations produce more offspring than will survive.

6 Natural Selection Simulation Groups of 2-3 One person is hawk, rest are mice Hawk has 10 seconds to catch as many mice as possible ONE AT A TIME. The mice that survive will “reproduce”.

7 3. Only the fittest of the offspring will survive and pass on their genes (Survival of the fittest) Fitness –being well adapted to the environment (best able to survive and make babies)

8 In conclusion… POPULATIONS are always changing. They evolve to become better adapted to their environment.
